Various types of Structural Steel

Specialized steel structures are an outcome of complex engineering to form a product which is customized to match the functional and aesthetic requirement of the complete building system. The various types of steel structuresare follows:

• Tension Members: A tension member is designed as a Structural steel members subjected to tensile force in a direction parallel to its longitudinal axis. A tensional member is also called a tie member. Wire and cables, Rods and bars, Single structural shapes and plates, built up members are different types of tension members which are used.
• Compression Members: A Structural member loaded axially in compression is generally called a compression member. Vertical compression members in buildings are called as columns, posts or stanchions.
• Built-up members and structures: Built-up members are used in many structures, such as compression members of trusses or supporting columns.

• Suspension structures: Building structures in which the elements that support the load (wires, grid, chains and so on) are subject only forces of extension.
